Dhṛṣṭadyumna’s advance toward Droṇa and the Sātyaki–Karṇa confrontation
स मोघं कृतमात्मानं दृष्टवा पार्थेन कौरव: । उत्सृज्य सात्यकिं क्रोधाद् गर्हयामास पाण्डवम्,कुन्तीकुमार अर्जुनके द्वारा अपनेको असफल किया हुआ देख कुरुवंशी भूरिश्रवाने कुपित हो सात्यकिको छोड़कर पाण्डुनन्दन अर्जुनकी निन्दा करते हुए कहा
sa moghaṃ kṛtam ātmānaṃ dṛṣṭvā pārthena kauravaḥ | utsṛjya sātyakiṃ krodhād garhayāmāsa pāṇḍavam ||
Sañjaya said: Seeing himself rendered futile—his effort made fruitless—by Pārtha (Arjuna), the Kaurava (Bhūriśravas), in anger, released Sātyaki and began to censure the Pāṇḍava, Arjuna. The moment frames how wrath in battle can shift a warrior from immediate combat to moral accusation, turning personal frustration into blame.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how anger in war can distort judgment: when a warrior feels thwarted, he may abandon the immediate contest and turn to reproach and moral accusation. It points to the ethical danger of letting krodha drive one’s speech and choices, even amid battlefield dharma.
Bhūriśravas, a Kaurava fighter, realizes that Arjuna has made his effort ineffective. In rage, he releases Sātyaki (whom he had been engaged with) and begins to condemn Arjuna, shifting from physical combat to verbal censure.
