धृष्टद्युम्नस्य द्रोणाभिमुख्यं तथा सात्यकि-कर्ण-समागमः
Dhṛṣṭadyumna’s advance toward Droṇa and the Sātyaki–Karṇa confrontation
ततस्तस्य वियोगेन पाप॑ मेडनर्थतो भवेत् | रक्षितश्न मया यस्मात् तस्मात् क्रुध्यसि कि मयि,इसी प्रकार उन सुरक्षित होनेवाले सुहृदोंका भी कर्तव्य है कि वे महासमरमें अपने राजाकी रक्षा करें। यदि मैं इस महायुद्धमें सात्यकिको अपने सामने मरते देखता तो उसके वियोगसे मुझे अनर्थकारी पाप लगता। इसीलिये मैंने उसकी रक्षा की है। अतः तुम मुझपर क्यों क्रोध करते हो?
tatas tasya viyogena pāpaṃ me ’narthato bhavet | rakṣitaś ca mayā yasmāt tasmāt krudhyasi kiṃ mayi ||
“Then, by being separated from him, a sin that brings calamity would fall upon me. Since I have protected him, why, for that reason, are you angry with me? In the same way, those loyal friends who are under protection also have the duty, in the great battle, to safeguard their king. If, in this mighty war, I were to see Sātyaki die before my eyes, his loss would weigh on me as a ruinous fault; therefore I protected him. So why do you direct your wrath at me?”
