Adhyāya 140: Rātriyuddhe Droṇa-prāpti-prayatnaḥ

Night engagement and the attempt to reach Droṇa

dṛṣṭvā cāraṇasiddhānāṁ vismayaḥ samajāyata |

Sañjaya said: Seeing that deed—unthinkable, otherworldly, and wondrous—even the Cāraṇas and the Siddhas were seized with great astonishment. The moment underscores how extraordinary acts on the battlefield can transcend ordinary human measure and draw the gaze of higher beings, revealing the war’s terrifying, superhuman scale.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights that certain actions—especially in the extreme moral and physical pressure of war—can exceed ordinary expectations and evoke awe even in celestial observers, reminding the listener that consequences and significance may be far greater than what human eyes alone can gauge.

Sañjaya reports that an extraordinary, almost unimaginable feat has just been witnessed; its marvel is so great that even the celestial Cāraṇas and Siddhas react with profound astonishment.
