Cekitāno 'nuvindena yuyudhe cātibhairavam | yathā devāsure yuddhe balaśakrau mahābalau ||

Sañjaya said: Cekitāna fought with Anuvinda in a battle of extreme terror and intensity—like the mighty Bala and Indra contending in the ancient war between gods and demons. The simile heightens the moral gravity of the scene: heroic prowess is displayed at its peak, yet it unfolds within the tragic momentum of fratricidal war.

Educational Q&A

The verse underscores how epic poetry frames human warfare through cosmic analogies: extraordinary valor can appear godlike, yet it remains bound to the peril and moral weight of destructive conflict. It invites reflection on kṣatriya duty (courage and steadfastness) alongside the sobering reality of war’s भय (terror).

Sañjaya describes a fierce duel: Cekitāna and Anuvinda clash in a terrifying fight. To convey its intensity, he compares them to the mythic combatants Bala and Indra battling in the devas–asuras war.
