Duryodhana’s Incursion and the Tumult of Battle
Sañjaya said: Then, scanning all directions in his eagerness to behold Savyasācin (Arjuna), Yudhiṣṭhira looked about—but he could see neither Pārtha (Arjuna) nor Mādhava (Kṛṣṇa). The moment underscores the king’s anxious responsibility in war: the absence of his foremost protector and guide becomes an ethical and strategic crisis, testing steadiness amid uncertainty.

Even in righteous warfare, leadership is tested by uncertainty and separation. Yudhiṣṭhira’s search reflects the dharmic burden of a king: he must remain composed and discerning when key allies and moral guides are not immediately present.
Yudhiṣṭhira looks in every direction, hoping to see Arjuna (Savyasācin/Pārtha) and Kṛṣṇa (Mādhava), but cannot find them. Their absence signals a tense turn in the battle situation and heightens concern for the Pandava side.
