Sañjaya said: Then again, those fierce warriors, their mouths agape in rage, began to shower stones from every side. With iron clubs in hand and tridents raised—Daradas, Taṅgaṇas, and Khasas—they pressed in around Sātyaki. Yet Sātyaki, skilled in countering attacks, shattered and cut them down with his sharp arrows, turning their violent onslaught back upon them and upholding his duty as a protector amid the chaos of war.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights steadfastness in one’s duty amid violence: even when surrounded and attacked from all sides, a warrior entrusted with protection must respond with skill and restraint appropriate to the battlefield, meeting force with disciplined counteraction rather than panic.

Frontier fighters—Daradas, Taṅgaṇas, and Khasas—surround Sātyaki and pelt him with stones while wielding iron weapons and tridents. Sātyaki counters effectively, breaking their assault with his arrows and cutting them down.
