Sunset Vow and Curse-Condition
अद्य कौरवसैन्यस्य दीर्यमाणस्य संयुगे । श्र॒त्वा विरावं बहुधा संतप्स्यति सुयोधन:,आज दुर्योधनसहित समस्त कौरव मेरा पराक्रम देखेंगे। सूत! आज इन सिरमुण्डोंके मारे जाने तथा अन्य सारी सेनाओंका बारंबार विनाश होनेपर युद्धस्थलमें छिन्न-भिन्न होती हुई कौरव-सेनाका नाना प्रकारसे आर्तनाद सुनकर दुर्योधनको बड़ा संताप होगा
adya kauravasainyasya dīryamāṇasya saṁyuge | śrutvā virāvaṁ bahudhā saṁtapsyati suyodhanaḥ ||
Sūta said: “Today, as the Kaurava host is being torn apart in battle, Duryodhana will be consumed with anguish when he hears, again and again, the many kinds of cries and tumult rising from his shattered army.”
सूत उवाच
The verse underscores the moral consequence of destructive ambition: when a leader clings to adharma and fuels war, the inevitable result is the suffering of one’s own people, culminating in personal torment and regret.
Sūta foretells that the Kaurava forces are being broken in the ongoing battle, and that Duryodhana will soon hear the varied cries and uproar of his collapsing army—an omen of his growing despair as defeat approaches.
