Droṇa-parva Adhyāya 114 — Karṇa–Bhīmasena Missile Exchange, Disarmament, and Arjuna’s Intervention

kṛtārtham atha cātmānaṁ manyate kālacoditaḥ |

Sañjaya said: Driven on by Time (fate), Duryodhana deems himself successful. Having obtained the support of this entire host of kings and the foremost of chariot-warriors—Droṇācārya, Kṛpācārya, Bhūriśravā, Jayadratha, and Karṇa—he now insults the Pāṇḍavas, imagining that his cause has been fulfilled. The verse underscores how pride and contempt arise when power is mistaken for righteousness, and how ‘Time’ is invoked to explain the momentum of war and delusion.
