छित्त्वा तु तान् शरान् राजन् क्रोधसंरक्तलोचन:
chittvā tu tān śarān rājan krodha-saṃrakta-locanaḥ
Sañjaya said: “O King, having cut down those arrows, with eyes reddened by wrath…”
संजय उवाच
The line highlights how anger manifests outwardly even in disciplined warriors; in the Mahābhārata’s ethical frame, wrath can sharpen resolve in battle yet also threatens discernment (viveka), making self-mastery a crucial virtue alongside kṣatriya valor.
Sañjaya reports to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra that a warrior has cut down incoming arrows and now stands with eyes reddened in anger, signaling an escalation in the duel and the intensifying emotional stakes of the battlefield.
