Droṇa-parva Adhyāya 107: Karṇa–Bhīma Saṃmarda
Arrow-storm Engagement
तेषामासीद् व्यतिक्षेपौ गर्जतामितरेतरम्
teṣām āsīd vyatikṣepo garjatām itaretaram
Sañjaya said: Among them there arose a fierce intermingling and clash, as they roared at one another—each side answering the other’s challenge in the tumult of battle.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how unchecked martial fury and mutual provocation intensify conflict: roaring challenges lead to close, chaotic clashes. Implicitly, it contrasts the warrior code’s valor with the moral cost of escalating hostility.
Sañjaya describes the battlefield moment when opposing warriors surge into one another in close quarters. Their loud war-cries and mutual taunts culminate in a direct, tangled engagement.
