Description of Regions, Mountains, and Their Inhabitants
एते चान्ये जनपदा: प्राच्योदीच्यास्तथैव च । उद्देशमात्रेण मया देशा: संकीर्तिता विभो,राजन! ये तथा और भी पूर्व और उत्तर दिशाके जनपद एवं देश मैंने संक्षेपसे बताये हैं
ete cānye janapadāḥ prācyodīcyās tathaiva ca | uddeśamātreṇa mayā deśāḥ saṅkīrtitā vibho, rājan |
Sañjaya said: “And these other realms as well—those of the eastern and the northern quarters—have been mentioned by me only in brief, by way of indication, O mighty king. I have thus merely enumerated the countries in summary.”
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights narrative restraint and accuracy: Sañjaya clarifies that his account of the many lands is only an outline, reminding the listener that vast realities (peoples and regions) can be indicated without exhaustive detail.
Sañjaya, reporting to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra, concludes a geographical/tribal enumeration connected with the war context, stating that he has mentioned the eastern and northern realms only briefly, by way of summary.
