Sañjaya said: “O King, it rises to a height of eighty-four thousand yojanas; and, O lord of the earth, it extends downward as well for eighty-four thousand yojanas into the ground.”
संजय उवाच
The verse emphasizes the overwhelming scale and majesty of what is being described, cultivating awe and humility in the listener; it frames the battlefield narrative within a larger, almost cosmic sense of magnitude, reminding a king that human power is small before vast realities.
Sañjaya is reporting to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra a description of an immense form/object whose height is said to be 84,000 yojanas and which extends the same distance downward into the earth, conveying its colossal presence.
