Arjuna said: “And these sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra—every one of them—together with the assembled hosts of kings, are rushing into You. Bhīṣma, Droṇa, and that son of a charioteer (Karṇa) as well, along with even the foremost warriors on our side, are all entering Your mouths—terrible with gaping jaws and fearsome fangs.”

Educational Q&A

The verse underscores the overwhelming sovereignty of the divine order (often identified with Kāla, Time) in which even the greatest heroes are drawn toward inevitable destruction. Ethically, it reframes the battlefield as operating within a larger cosmic necessity, challenging Arjuna to see personal agency and moral struggle against the backdrop of an inescapable universal law.

Arjuna, beholding the Lord’s cosmic form, describes a terrifying vision: the Kauravas with allied kings, and even renowned commanders like Bhīṣma, Droṇa, and Karṇa—together with leading warriors from Arjuna’s own side—are rushing into the divine mouths. It is a symbolic depiction of the coming slaughter as already encompassed within the cosmic reality revealed to him.
