उत्पातवर्णनम् (Utpāta-varṇanam) — Catalogue of Portents
अशोभिता दिश: सर्वा: पांसुवर्ष: समन्ततः । उत्पातमेघा रौद्राश्न रात्रौ वर्षन्ति शोणितम्,चारों ओर धूलकी वर्षा होनेसे सम्पूर्ण दिशाएँ शोभाहीन हो गयी हैं। उत्पातसूचक भयंकर मेघ रातमें रक्तकी वर्षा करते हैं
aśobhitā diśaḥ sarvāḥ pāṃsuvṛṣṭiḥ samantataḥ | utpātameghā raudrāś ca rātrau varṣanti śoṇitam ||
Vyāsa said: All the directions have lost their beauty, for dust is raining down on every side. Ominous, terrifying clouds—portents of calamity—pour down blood in the night. These signs proclaim a collapse of auspicious order and foreshadow the unrighteous devastation that war unleashes when dharma is eclipsed.
