Bhīṣma–Karṇa Saṃvāda on the Śaraśayyā (भीष्म–कर्ण संवादः शरशय्यायाम्)
विव्यधुर्निशितैर्बाणै रुक्मपुड्खैरजिद्दागै: । इसी प्रकार अन्य शूरवीर महारथियोंने भीमसेन और अर्जुनको सुवर्णपंखयुक्त, सीधे जानेवाले पैने बाणोंद्वारा बींध डाला
vivyadhur niśitair bāṇai rukmapuḍkhair ajiddāgaiḥ |
Sañjaya said: They pierced Bhīmasena and Arjuna with sharp arrows—straight-flying shafts fitted with golden feathers—showing how, in the fury of battle, even great warriors are met with the same relentless force of arms, and valor is tested through endurance and restraint amid violence.
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores the harsh impartiality of war: even foremost heroes face injury, and true kṣatriya conduct is measured by steadfastness, discipline, and adherence to duty amid suffering.
Sañjaya reports that opposing warriors shower Bhīmasena and Arjuna with sharp, straight-flying arrows adorned with golden fletching, wounding them in the ongoing battle.
