Bhīmasena’s Engagement with Multiple Mahārathas

Sanjaya said: Yudhishthira struck the Grandsire Bhishma with twelve arrows. Thereafter Dhrishtadyumna too pierced him with his own shafts; and the mighty Bhishma, roaring like a lion, answered the assault with undiminished valor. Then Nakula with twelve, Satyaki with three, Dhrishtadyumna with seventy, Bhimasena with seven, and Yudhishthira again with twelve arrows wounded the Grandsire Bhishma. But Drona, having pierced Satyaki, then struck Bhimasena as well. The passage underscores the grim reciprocity of war: even revered elders become targets, and prowess is measured in restraint and duty as much as in force.
