niṣpapāta tatastūrṇaṁ putras tava viśāmpate | sahito bhrātṛbhis tais tu devair iva śatakratuḥ, prajānātha |
Then, O lord of the people, your son Duryodhana swiftly rushed out of the camp together with those brothers of his—like Śatakratu (Indra) emerging from his own abode accompanied by the gods. The simile heightens his royal confidence and martial resolve, while also hinting at the intoxicating pride that often precedes ruin in a dharmic war.
The verse illustrates how power and confidence can appear godlike in outward display, yet dharmic discernment is needed: martial energy and royal splendor, when driven by pride and adharma, can become a prelude to downfall.
Karna describes Duryodhana immediately coming out of the camp with his brothers, and compares the scene to Indra stepping out with the gods—emphasizing the Kaurava leader’s bold, commanding presence at that moment.
