Educational Q&A

The verse models dharmic inquiry: a ruler (Indra) begins counsel by checking a minister-priest’s well-being, loyalty to the common good (the gods’ welfare), and whether the community reciprocates by supporting its guide—highlighting mutual responsibility between leader, advisor, and society.

Indra addresses his preceptor Bṛhaspati with a series of courteous questions—about his comfort, the quality of his attendants, his continued concern for the gods’ welfare, and the gods’ protection of him—setting up Bṛhaspati’s forthcoming explanation of his inner concern.
