Inquiry into the cause of Arjuna’s recurring hardship

Book 14, Chapter 89

varṣitvā dhanadhārābhiḥ kāmai ratnai rasais tathā | vipāpmā bharataśreṣṭhaḥ kṛtārthaḥ prāviśat puram ||

Vaiśampāyana said: Having caused a torrential shower of wealth, and likewise a shower of all desired enjoyments, jewels, and choice delicacies, the sinless Yudhiṣṭhira—the best of the Bharatas—fulfilled in purpose, entered his city. The verse underscores the king’s ethical ideal: prosperity is distributed as a public act of dharma, and the completion of the sacrifice is marked not by personal gain but by generous, orderly return to civic life.
