Vaiśampāyana said: “Know me, my son, as Ulūpī—your mother, the daughter of the Nāga race. Obey my instruction, child; by doing so, a higher dharma will come to you.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse emphasizes that accepting one’s true relationships and obeying a rightful maternal/elder command can lead to ‘para dharma’—a higher form of righteous conduct aligned with moral order.
Ulūpī reveals her identity as the speaker’s mother and as a Nāga-born woman, then instructs her son to follow her directive, assuring him that compliance will bring him greater dharma.
