Uttarā’s Lament and the Revival of Abhimanyu’s Son by Krishna’s Truth-Act
vaiśampāyana uvāca | dṛṣṭvā govindam āyāntaṁ kṛpaṇaṁ paryadevayat |
Vaiśampāyana said: Seeing Govinda approaching, she—overwhelmed with helpless grief—lamented aloud. Hearing of his arrival, Uttarā checked her tears, ceased her weeping, and covered her whole body with her garments. Holding a reverential, God-centered understanding of Kṛṣṇa, she was distressed at heart; and, with a voice choked by emotion, the ascetic maiden began to speak in a piteous cry.
The passage highlights bhakti and śaraṇāgati: even amid unbearable loss, the devotee turns toward the divine with reverence, seeking refuge and moral reassurance rather than mere worldly consolation.
As Kṛṣṇa (Govinda) arrives, Uttarā—an ascetic young woman—restrains her outward weeping, modestly covers herself, and then, deeply distressed yet reverent toward Kṛṣṇa, begins to speak with a choked voice, lamenting her plight.
