Vaiśampāyana said: “O Vāsudeva, mighty-armed one! Because of you, Devakī is truly counted as blessed with an excellent son. You are our refuge and our firm support; the safeguarding and continuance of this lineage rests under your protection.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse frames righteous leadership and communal stability as grounded in a worthy protector: a single dharmic figure becomes the community’s ‘gati’ (refuge) and ‘pratiṣṭhā’ (foundation). It also expresses filial and devotional valuation—Devakī’s motherhood is honored because her son embodies protection and moral authority.
In Vaiśampāyana’s narration, Kṛṣṇa (Vāsudeva) is being praised and relied upon as the decisive support of the family line. The speakers acknowledge that the dynasty’s safety and continuity depend upon him, elevating him as both emotional refuge and practical guardian.
