वर्णतो गुणतश्चैव योनितश्वैव तत्त्वतः । सर्वमेतत्तमो विप्रा: कीर्तितं वो यथाविधि,विप्रवरो! वर्ण, गुण, योनि और तत्त्वके अनुसार मैंने आपसे तमोगुणका पूरा-पूरा यथावत्‌ वर्णन किया

varṇato guṇataś caiva yonitaś caiva tattvataḥ | sarvam etat tamo viprāḥ kīrtitaṃ vo yathāvidhi ||

Vāyu-deva said: “O brāhmaṇas, I have now set forth for you—duly and in proper order—the full account of tamas, classified by social designation (varṇa), by qualities (guṇa), by birth or source (yoni), and by its underlying reality (tattva).”
