abhiṣvaḍḍas tu kāmeṣu mahāmoha iti smṛtaḥ | ṛṣayo munayo devā muhānty atra sukhepsavaḥ ||
Attachment and clinging to sense-pleasures is remembered as “great delusion” (mahāmoha). Under its sway, even seers, sages, and the gods—when they seek the sweetness of enjoyment—can become bewildered; how much more, then, ordinary human beings.
The verse defines “mahāmoha” as intense attachment to sense-pleasures and warns that the desire for enjoyment can bewilder even exalted beings; therefore vigilance and self-mastery are essential for dharmic living.
Vāyudeva is instructing the listener by characterizing a specific spiritual danger—attachment to pleasures—and emphasizing its power by noting that even ṛṣis, munis, and devas can be deluded when they pursue pleasure.
