वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores the dharmic value placed on lineage and rightful succession: the continuity of a royal house is maintained through legitimate progeny, which supports social order and the transmission of duty (dharma) across generations.
The narrator Vaiśampāyana continues a genealogical account, stating that Rathantarī, the wife of King Īlina, bore five sons, with Duṣyanta named first among them.
