Educational Q&A

The verse underscores the authority of tradition transmitted through attentive listening: knowledge of dharmic lineages and exemplary kings is preserved and validated by śravaṇa (hearing) from a qualified narrator.

Janamejaya addresses the Brahmin narrator, acknowledging that he has heard the extensive account of the ancestors’ origins and the names of noble kings in the dynasty, setting up the continuation of the genealogical narration.
