ययाति-देवयानी-शर्मिष्ठा विवादः — Śukra’s Curse and the Disclosure of Lineage

दृष्टवा काव्यमुवाचेदं सम्भ्रमाविष्टचेतना । आचचक्षे महाप्राज्ञं देवयानीं वने हताम्‌

dṛṣṭvā kāvyam uvācedaṃ sambhramāviṣṭa-cetanā | ācacakṣe mahāprājñaṃ devayānīṃ vane hatām ||

Seeing the grievous scene, her mind seized by agitation, she spoke these words. She reported to the very wise one that Devayānī had been slain in the forest—an utterance charged with alarm and moral shock at the violation of safety and propriety in a place that should have offered refuge.
