Vaiśampāyana said: “O King, when the earth, tormented by mighty asuras intoxicated with their strength and prowess and exerting themselves with relentless effort, could no longer bear the oppression, she set out to seek refuge with Brahmā.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
When power becomes arrogance and turns into oppression, the world-order (dharma) is disturbed; relief is sought through rightful higher authority. The verse frames ethical governance cosmically: unchecked might invites corrective intervention.
Powerful asuras, drunk on their strength, harass the earth. Unable to endure the burden, the personified Earth goes to Brahmā to seek protection and a remedy.
