येन देश: स सर्वस्तु तमोभूत इवाभवत् । दृष्टवा सृष्ट तु नीहारं ततस्तं परमर्षिणा
yena deśaḥ sa sarvas tu tamobhūta ivābhavat | dṛṣṭvā sṛṣṭaṃ tu nīhāraṃ tatas taṃ paramarṣiṇā ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana said: “In consequence of that, the entire region seemed as though it had been plunged into darkness. Then, seeing that mist had been produced by the great sage, (they understood the cause of the sudden gloom).”
