Duḥṣantasya Vana-praveśaḥ
King Duḥṣanta’s Entry into the Forest Hunt
sa cediviṣayaṃ ramyaṃ vasuḥ pauravanandanaḥ | indropadeśāj jagrāha ramaṇīyaṃ mahīpatiḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Vasu, the delight of the Paurava line, accepted the charming realm of Cedi—an exceedingly pleasant kingdom—acting upon Indra’s counsel. The passage frames his accession not as mere conquest or ambition, but as a kingship undertaken under divine instruction, implying a ruler’s duty to govern in alignment with higher guidance and the welfare of the land.
