Vaiśampāyana said: Then Varuṇa presented him a mighty mace named Kaumodakī, whose roar was like a thunderbolt. Terrible in power and famed as a destroyer of the Dāityas, this weapon signified divine sanction and the righteous use of force against oppressive, unruly powers.

Divinely sanctioned power is portrayed as legitimate when aligned with the protection of cosmic and social order—force is justified not for aggression, but to restrain destructive, lawless forces symbolized by the Dāityas.
In Vaiśampāyana’s narration, Varuṇa bestows a formidable mace named Kaumodakī, described as thunderous and capable of destroying the Dāityas, marking the recipient’s empowerment through a divine weapon.
