Janamejaya said: “All my forefathers—the Pāṇḍavas—were men of great inner strength and nobility. And Draupadī, their lawful wife, how did she follow and accompany them all?”

The verse foregrounds dharma in relationships: true nobility (mahāsattva) is measured by steadfast conduct, and Draupadī is presented as a dharma-patnī whose loyalty and ethical commitment are worth examining as part of the Pāṇḍavas’ exemplary life.
King Janamejaya, hearing about his ancestors, asks the narrator to explain how Draupadī—wife to the Pāṇḍavas—managed to accompany and follow them, implying their shared hardships and the unusual circumstance of her being connected to all five brothers.
