आदि पर्व — द्रौपदी-स्वयंवरानन्तरवृत्तम्
Aftermath of Draupadī’s Svayaṃvara
जलसंध: पितापुत्रौ विदण्डो दण्ड एव च । पौण्ड्को वासुदेवश्च भगदत्तश्न वीर्यवान्,इनके सिवा और भी असंख्य महामना क्षत्रियशिरोमणि भूमिपाल यहाँ आये हैं। उधर देखो, गान्धारराज सुबलके पुत्र शकुनि, वृषक और बृहद्वल बैठे हैं। गान्धारराजके ये सभी पुत्र यहाँ पधारे हैं। अश्वत्थामा और भोज--ये दोनों महान् तेजस्वी और सम्पूर्ण शस्त्रधारियोंमें श्रेष्ठ हैं और तुम्हारे लिये गहने-कपड़ोंसे सज-धजकर यहाँ आये हैं। राजा बृहन्त, मणिमान्, दण्डधार, सहदेव, जयत्सेन, राजा मेघसंधि, अपने दोनों पुत्रों शंख और उत्तरके साथ राजा विराट, वृद्धक्षेमके पुत्र सुशर्मा, राजा सेनाबिन्दु, सुकेतु और उनके पुत्र सुवर्चा, सुचित्र, सुकुमार, वृक, सत्यधृति, सूर्यध्वज, रोचमान, नील, चित्रायुध, अंशुमान्, चेकितान, महाबली श्रेणिमान्ू, समुद्रसेनके प्रतापी पुत्र चन्द्रसेन, जलसंध, विदण्ड और उनके पुत्र दण्ड, पौण्ड्रक वासुदेव, पराक्रमी भगदत्त, कलिंगनरेश ताम्रलिप्तनरेश, पाटनके राजा, अपने दो पुत्रों वीर रुक््मांगद तथा रुक्मरथके साथ महारथी मद्रराज शल्य, कुरुवंशी सोमदत्त तथा उनके तीन महारथी शूरवीर पुत्र भूरि, भूरिश्रवा और शल, काम्बोजदेशीय सुदक्षिण, पूरुवंशी दृढ़धन्वा
jalasaṃdhaḥ pitāputrau vidaṇḍo daṇḍa eva ca | pauṇḍrako vāsudevaś ca bhagadattaś ca vīryavān ||
Dhṛṣṭadyumna said: “Here are Jalasaṃdha; the father and son Vidaṇḍa and Daṇḍa; Pauṇḍraka Vāsudeva; and the mighty Bhagadatta. Besides these, countless great-souled kṣatriya-lords, the foremost among rulers, have assembled here.” In context, the speech functions as a martial inventory: it publicly names allied kings and renowned warriors to strengthen resolve, signal the scale of the coming conflict, and frame the war as a confrontation among eminent rulers whose choices will be judged by dharma and reputation.
