Hiḍimbā’s Petition, Conditional Union with Bhīma, and the Birth-Naming of Ghaṭotkaca
Iti prakāraṁ Śrīmahābhārata Ādiparva ke antargata Jatugṛhapārva meṁ Duryodhana-parāmarśa-viṣayaka eka-śata-ikatālīsavāṁ adhyāya pūrā huā.
Thus ends the one hundred and forty-first chapter of the Jatugṛha section within the Ādi Parva of the Śrī Mahābhārata, dealing with Duryodhana’s counsel and deliberations. The closing note underscores the narrative’s ethical tension: secret plotting and manipulative advice stand in sharp contrast to the demands of dharma and transparent conduct.
दुर्योधन उवाच
Even when presented as ‘counsel,’ strategies rooted in deception and harm violate dharma; the epic frames such deliberations as ethically corrosive and socially destabilizing.
This line is a concluding colophon stating that the chapter has ended; it identifies the text as part of the Ādi Parva, within the Jatugṛha episode, and notes that the chapter’s subject concerns Duryodhana’s counsel/deliberations.
