Adhyāya 129 — Public Acclaim of the Pāṇḍavas and Duryodhana’s Appeal to Dhṛtarāṣṭra
इति श्रीमहाभारते आदिपर्वणि सम्भवपर्वणि भीमप्रत्यागमने अष्टाविंशत्यधिकशततमो<ध्याय:
iti śrīmahābhārate ādiparvaṇi sambhavaparvaṇi bhīmapratyāgamane aṣṭāviṁśatyadhikaśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ
Thus ends the one hundred and twenty-eighth chapter (being the 128th), in the Ādi Parva of the Śrī Mahābhārata, within the Sambhava section, in the episode concerning Bhīma’s return. This is the formal colophon marking the close of the chapter and situating it within the larger narrative structure.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
This line is a colophon rather than a didactic verse: it teaches how the Mahābhārata self-documents its internal organization—parva, sub-parva, and chapter—so that the narrative can be accurately located, transmitted, and referenced.
The narrative action is not advanced here; the text is formally closing the chapter and identifying it as part of the Sambhava section of the Ādi Parva, specifically connected with the episode of Bhīma’s return.
