The Recital/Teaching of the Thousand Names of Śiva
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
The verse presents Shiva as Pati—the unsurpassable Lord—whose radiance is consciousness itself, whose compassion protects the bound soul (paśu), and whose serenity becomes the doorway to grace (anugraha) and liberation.
These epithets guide Saguna-upāsanā: devotees contemplate Shiva’s luminous presence, Vedic sanctity, and compassion while worshiping the Jyotirlinga, understanding the Linga as the accessible sign of the transcendent, unsurpassable Lord.
Meditate on Shiva as “tejomaya” (inner light) while repeating the Panchakshara mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” and offer simple Linga-upacāras (water, bilva leaves) with a compassionate, calm mind reflecting “prasannātmā.”
