Ravana Reveals Himself; Sita Affirms Rama’s Dharma
तत्र सीते मया सार्धं वनेषु विहरिष्यसि।न चास्यारण्यवासस्य स्पृहयिष्यसि भामिनि।।3.47.30।।
tatra sīte mayā sārdhaṁ vaneṣu vihariṣyasi | na cāsyāraṇyavāsasya spṛhayiṣyasi bhāmini || 3.47.30 ||
Di sana, wahai Sītā, engkau akan bersenang-senang bersamaku di taman-taman dan rimba; dan, wahai jelita, engkau takkan lagi merindukan hidup keras di hutan belantara ini.
O Sita, you can stroll with me in my pleasure-gardens. O beautiful lady, you will not like living in the forest (thereafter).
The verse illustrates a dharma-conflict by contrast: Rāvaṇa promotes pleasure and comfort to lure Sītā away from her rightful duty, showing how adharma often operates through temptation rather than open force.
Rāvaṇa tries to persuade Sītā to accept him by promising luxury and relief from forest hardships.
By implication, Sītā’s steadfastness is tested—her commitment to dharma must stand against inducements of comfort and sensual ease.
