FAQs

It refers to the solar orb or solar sphere—‘Mārtaṇḍa’ being a common Purāṇic epithet for the Sun—described here as a locus where a class of Pitṛs abides.

They are a named group/class of Pitṛs (ancestral deities) identified as dwelling in the Sun’s sphere, indicating a structured Purāṇic cosmology of Pitṛ-lokas and their placements.

By situating Pitṛs within the cosmic order, the text reinforces the importance of ancestral reverence (pitṛ-yajña/śrāddha) as part of dharma, linking human ritual duty with a larger sacred cosmography.
