Udyoga Parva, Chapter 81: Krishna Sets Out as Envoy
The verse frames an ethical-political criterion for action: a proposed step should be (1) fitting to the rightful parties (the Pārthas), (2) honor-enhancing for the mediator/leader (Kṛṣṇa), and (3) conducive to the welfare of the kṣatriya order—i.e., promoting stability, rightful conduct, and the broader good rather than narrow gain.
In the Udyoga Parva’s pre-war deliberations, Vaiśaṃpāyana narrates counsel directed to Kṛṣṇa regarding a contemplated measure in the tense negotiations between the Pāṇḍavas and the Kauravas. The line endorses that measure as suitable for the Pāṇḍavas, reputation-building for Kṛṣṇa, and beneficial for the warrior polity.
