उद्योगपर्व — अध्याय 33: धृतराष्ट्र-विदुर संवादः (विदुरनीतिः)
गतिरात्मवतां सन्त: सन््त एव सतां गति: । असतां च गति: सन््तो न त्वसन्त: सतां गति:
gatir ātmavatāṃ santaḥ santa eva satāṃ gatiḥ | asatāṃ ca gatiḥ santo na tv asantaḥ satāṃ gatiḥ ||
Sandaran bagi mereka yang mengekang diri adalah orang-orang baik; dan bagi orang baik, sandaran mereka hanyalah orang baik. Bahkan bagi yang jahat pun, orang baik menjadi tempat berlindung; namun yang jahat tak pernah menjadi sandaran bagi yang baik.
विदुर उवाच
Vidura teaches that moral strength and social support ultimately rest on the virtuous: the good uphold the self-controlled and even rescue the wicked, while the wicked cannot truly sustain or guide the good.
In Udyoga Parva, Vidura offers ethical counsel amid the rising conflict, emphasizing where reliable support lies—urging reliance on the saintly and warning against depending on the unvirtuous.
