उद्योगपर्व — अध्याय 33: धृतराष्ट्र-विदुर संवादः (विदुरनीतिः)
सुव्याहृतानि सूक्तानि सुकृतानि ततस्तत: । संचिन्वन् धीर आसीत शिलाहारी शिलं यथा
suvyāhṛtāni sūktāni sukṛtāni tatastataḥ | sañcinvan dhīra āsīta śilāhārī śilaṃ yathā ||
Sebagaimana orang yang hidup dari memungut butir-butir gandum di tanah berbatu mengumpulkannya satu per satu, demikian pula orang yang teguh hendaknya terus menghimpun ucapan bijak, petuah luhur, dan perbuatan mulia dari mana pun didapati.
विदुर उवाच
One should steadily accumulate wisdom and virtue—good words, sound maxims, and meritorious actions—from any source, even in small amounts, as a disciplined practice of self-improvement.
In Vidura’s counsel during the Udyoga Parva, he instructs that a wise person should keep gathering ethical instruction and examples of good conduct from all directions, using the metaphor of a gleaner who survives by patiently collecting grains among stones.
