सम्बन्धकं चैव समर्थ्य तस्मिन् दाशार्णके वै नृपतौ नरेन्द्र । स्वयं कृत्वा विप्रलम्भं॑ यथाव- न्मन्त्रैकाग्रो निश्चयं वै जगाम,नरेन्द्र! यद्यपि राजा द्रुपदने स्वयं ही वंचना की थी, तथापि दशार्णराजके साथ सम्बन्ध और प्रेम बनाये रखनेकी इच्छा करके एकाग्रचित्तसे मन्त्रणा करते हुए वे एक निश्चयपर पहुँच गये
sambandhakaṃ caiva samarthya tasmin dāśārṇake vai nṛpatau narendra | svayaṃ kṛtvā vipralambhaṃ yathāvan mantrāikāgro niścayaṃ vai jagāma, narendra ||
Wahai raja, dengan tekad untuk mempertahankan dan menguatkan hubungan dengan penguasa Daśārṇa itu—meski ia teringat bahwa dahulu ia sendiri pernah berbuat tipu daya—ia bermusyawarah dengan pikiran terpusat dan akhirnya sampai pada keputusan yang teguh.
भीष्म उवाच
The verse underscores the ethical tension between past wrongdoing and present political necessity: even after committing deception, a ruler may seek to stabilize alliances through focused counsel and firm resolve—inviting reflection on how dharma, expediency, and accountability interact in royal decision-making.
Bhīṣma describes a king who, aiming to preserve affection and ties with the Daśārṇa ruler, deliberates intently and reaches a definite decision, despite the background fact that he had earlier deceived King Drupada.
