मधुरानूषरे देशो शुचौ पुण्ये महामति: । निवेशं कारयामास कुन्तीपुत्रो युधिष्ठिर:,श्मशान, देवमन्दिर, महर्षियोंके आश्रम, तीर्थ और सिद्धक्षेत्र--इन सबका परित्याग करके उन स्थानोंसे बहुत दूर ऊसररहित मनोहर शुद्ध एवं पवित्र स्थानमें जाकर कुन्तीपुत्र महामति युधिष्ठटिरने अपनी सेनाको ठहराया

vaiśampāyana uvāca |

madhurānūṣare deśe śucau puṇye mahāmatiḥ |

niveśaṃ kārayāmāsa kuntīputro yudhiṣṭhiraḥ ||

Di wilayah yang manis dipandang, bebas dari tanah asin yang tandus, bersih dan membawa berkah, Yudhiṣṭhira putra Kuntī yang berhati luhur memerintahkan agar perkemahan didirikan. Dengan sengaja ia menjauh dari tanah pembakaran, kuil-kuil dewa, pertapaan para resi, tempat-tempat tirtha, dan kawasan suci termasyhur—sebab bahkan di ambang perang ia menjaga tata susila dan kesakralan.
