माधवी-प्रदानम् (Mādhavī Offered to Gālava) — Udyoga Parva 113
नित्य॑ प्रोष्ठपदा भ्यां च शुक्रे धनपतौ तथा । मनुष्येभ्य: समादत्ते शुक्रश्ित्तार्जितं धनम्,द्विजश्रेष्ठ! पूर्वभाद्रपद और उत्तरभाद्रपद इन दो नक्षत्रोंमेंसे किसी एकके साथ शुक्रवारका योग हो तो अग्निदेव कुबेरके लिये अपने संकल्पसे धनका निर्माण करके उसे मनुष्योंको दे देते हैं। पूर्वभाद्रपदके देवता अजैकपाद, उत्तरभाद्रपदके देवता अहिर्बुध्न्य और कुबेर--ये तीनों उस धनकी रक्षा करते हैं। इस प्रकार किसीको भी ऐसा धन नहीं मिल सकता, जो प्रारब्धवश उसे मिलनेवाला न हो और धनके बिना तुम्हें श्यामकर्ण घोड़ोंकी प्राप्ति नहीं हो सकती
nityaṃ proṣṭhapadābhyāṃ ca śukre dhanapatau tathā | manuṣyebhyaḥ samādatte śukraś cittārjitaṃ dhanam, dvijaśreṣṭha ||
Wahai yang terbaik di antara kaum dwija! Bila hari Jumat bertepatan dengan salah satu dari dua rasi Proṣṭhapadā—Pūrvabhādrapadā atau Uttarabhādrapadā—maka Kubera, sang Penguasa Kekayaan, dengan tekadnya menimbulkan harta dan membuat manusia memperolehnya. Namun tiada seorang pun mendapatkan harta yang tidak ditetapkan oleh takdirnya; dan tanpa harta engkau pun takkan memperoleh kuda-kuda śyāmakarṇa yang bertelinga gelap itu.

Wealth is not merely a matter of effort or auspicious timing; it comes only when it is allotted by destiny (prārabdha). Therefore, one should not presume entitlement to riches or to costly aims (like acquiring prized horses) without the destined means.
Nārada explains a belief about auspicious celestial combinations (Friday with the Proṣṭhapadā nakṣatras) connected with the arising of wealth under Kubera’s agency, and then draws the practical conclusion: no one receives wealth unless it is fated, and without such wealth the sought-after śyāmakarṇa horses cannot be obtained.
