भीष्म उवाच
Competence in war is not mere aggression: a responsible warrior-leader must unite technical mastery (formations, engines, weapons), courage, environmental endurance, and strategic insight into the opponent’s weak points.
In the Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma instructs on dharma and governance; here he lists essential qualifications for a capable fighter/commander—expertise in tactics and arms, steadfastness under hardship, and the ability to identify an enemy’s vulnerabilities.
