Treasury Security, Protection of Informants, and the Kalakavṛkṣīya Exemplum (Śānti Parva 83)
सर्वकामान् परित्यज्य तपस्तप्तं तदा मया । स्नेहात् त्वां तु ब्रवीम्येतन्मा भूयो विभ्रमेदिति
sarvakāmān parityajya tapas taptaṁ tadā mayā | snehāt tvāṁ tu bravīmy etan mā bhūyo vibhramed iti ||
Bhīṣma berkata: “Setelah menanggalkan segala hasrat, kala itu aku menjalani tapa. Karena kasih sayang kepadamu, kusampaikan ini—agar engkau jangan lagi jatuh ke dalam delusi dan tersesat.”
भीष्म उवाच
Renounce self-centered desires and accept disciplined restraint (tapas); wise counsel given out of genuine concern aims to prevent renewed confusion and moral error.
Bhīṣma, speaking as an elder authority, recalls having undertaken austerity after abandoning personal desires, and he warns the listener—out of affection—not to be misled again.
