Treasury Security, Protection of Informants, and the Kalakavṛkṣīya Exemplum (Śānti Parva 83)
राजोवाच भूयसा परिहारेण सत्कारेण च भूयसा । पूजितो ब्राह्मणश्रेष्ठ भूयो वस गृहे मम
rājovāca bhūyasā parihāreṇa satkāreṇa ca bhūyasā | pūjito brāhmaṇaśreṣṭha bhūyo vasa gṛhe mama ||
Raja berkata: “Dengan perlindungan yang lebih besar dan jamuan penghormatan yang lebih luhur, wahai Brahmana terbaik, aku akan memuliakanmu. Setelah engkau dihormati sebagaimana mestinya olehku, tinggallah kembali—bahkan untuk waktu yang lama—di rumahku.”
भीष्म उवाच
A king’s dharma includes actively protecting the worthy and extending generous hospitality; honoring a virtuous Brahmin is presented as an ethical obligation expressed through both safety (parihāra) and respectful service (satkāra).
A king addresses an eminent Brahmin, inviting him to stay in the royal household, promising increased protection from dangers and enhanced honor and hospitality, urging him to reside there for a long time.
