अस्तब्ध: पूजयेन्मान्यान् गुरून् सेवेदमायया । अर्चेद् देवानदम्भेन श्रियमिच्छेदकुत्सिताम्
astabdhaḥ pūjayen mānyān gurūn seved amāyayā | arced devān adambhena śriyam icched akutsitām ||
Bhishma mengajarkan: Tinggalkan keangkuhan; dengan rendah hati hormatilah mereka yang patut dihormati. Layani para guru tanpa tipu daya. Sembahlah para dewa tanpa pamer. Dan dambakan kemakmuran hanya melalui cara yang tak tercela dan tak ternoda.
भीष्म उवाच
Cultivate humility and integrity: honor the worthy, serve teachers sincerely, worship without show, and pursue prosperity only through morally blameless means.
In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma after the war; here he lays down practical norms of conduct that integrate social respect, disciplined discipleship, genuine devotion, and ethical acquisition of wealth.
