त॑ भार्याप्युपचक्राम पादशौचादिभिर्गुणै: । उपपन्नां च तां साध्वीं पन्नग: पर्यपृच्छत,वहाँ नागराजकी पत्नी पैर धोनेके लिये जल--पाद्य आदि उत्तम सामग्रियोंके साथ पतिकी सेवामें उपस्थित हुई। अपनी साध्वी पत्नीको समीप आयी देख नागराजने पूछा --[
tāṁ bhāryāpy upacakrāma pādaśaucādibhir guṇaiḥ | upapannāṁ ca tāṁ sādhvīṁ pannagaḥ paryapṛcchat |
Di sana, istri raja Nāga mendekatinya untuk melayani, membawa pādya—air untuk membasuh kaki—serta perlengkapan terbaik lainnya. Melihat istrinya yang salehah datang mendekat, sang penguasa ular pun bertanya kepadanya.
भीष्म उवाच
The verse foregrounds gṛhastha-dharma: respectful service, purity, and virtuous conduct within the household, shown through the wife’s attentive offering of pādya and related requisites.
The Nāga king’s wife comes to attend upon her husband with water and other items for washing his feet; seeing her approach, the Nāga king begins to question her, moving the story forward.
