The verse highlights liberation through direct realization of the Self as utterly free from all attachments. When all saṅga (clinging) falls away and the Supreme is directly known, the mind’s ordinary seriousness dissolves; spontaneous laughter symbolizes transcendence, fearlessness, and freedom from worldly conditioning.
Bhīṣma describes a moment of inner vision: the Self is seen as detached from all associations. Upon beholding the Supreme Reality (tatparam), Śuka responds with repeated, unrestrained laughter—indicating a breakthrough into a state beyond conventional social and emotional constraints.
